For Public Relations Publications, we are designing the business card and letterhead for the organization or business of our choice. The Genesis Women’s Shelter in Dallas came to mind as I am personally familiar with their services and contribution to the community. Their mission statement reads,

“To end the epidemic of domestic violence against women and children by stopping individual victimization and reducing the devastating impact of family violence through safety, shelter and expert services to battered women and their children. We are committed to preventing violence by raising the level of community awareness regarding the pervasiveness and effects of domestic violence”

along with providing a secure and confidential hotline.

Throughout my time in college, I have vowed to commit as an advocate for social justice, and this fantastic organization goes above and beyond. They have unwrapped a need and restlessly exploit every resource to provide for that one need. Domestic Violence is an incredibly delicate topic that the Genesis Women’s Shelter handles with such grace, and I’m encouraged to highlight this organization in the light they deserve to glow in.

As far as competitors go, the Shelter is a non-profit organization that required the contribution and guidance of its’ community to thrive. This includes working together with other shelters or homes whom provide similar services, all striving towards the common goal. These other shelters include: Union Gospel Mission of Dallas-Center of Hope, My Second Chance, Inc., Victory Life in the Cliffs, Dallas Life Foundation, and the Salvation Army Dallas Women’s Shelter. While some are religion-affiliated, others provide only a very specific range of resources, Genesis is the only outlet of support that carries an abundance of resources for women and children, specifically, those recovering from a domestically violent relationship.

Genesis holds strong core values of integrity and hope, whilst encouraging a positive attitude through this transitional period of their client’s lives. Genesis is the pivotal motivator that lays out the many possibilities for these hopeful women and children.
